SSLA Public Relations Dear SSLA member, One of SSLA goals is to raise public awareness and interest in owning and caring for llamas…and through this process, hopefully some will join SSLA. We encourage our members to be active in promoting the value of our organization and locate people who might be interested in teaming up with the llama community whom otherwise have little or no knowledge of what we do. One of the ways we can do this is to promote our events to the public, invite them to attend and offer them the opportunity to participate, hands-on, during these events. Attached are press releases and announcements that can be given to your local TV and radio stations as well as to your newspapers. Simply fill in the blanks with the date, time and location of the event. Most radio and television stations as well as newspapers are very eager to promote llama events…for free. In fact, some stations and newspapers will be so interested in the llama activity that they often will ask for more information, such as an article, to supplement the announcement. In my situation, both the TV and newspapers have sent reporters to our farm for pictures and interviews because we told them of an upcoming, local, llama activity. A sample article is attached for this purpose. Help us with the promotion. All it takes is a brief phone call to the station manager or paper editor. You can either meet with them in person with the material or email the information to them. You will be pleasantly surprised of the positive results this will achieve. Finally, attached is a flyer you can take to your local veterinarian, feed store, or farm supply store to offer help to people who may have one or two llamas as pets and are not members of SSLA or aware of our existence. The purpose of the flyer is not necessarily to solicit membership but to offer help to those with a few pet llamas in terms of care and training. Your name and phone number or email can be added to the bottom of the flyer for those seeking help. The press releases, flyer, and list of public relations activities that you can do at llama shows and events are available on the SSLA web site (ssla.org). Thanks.
