YOUTH AFFAIRS

1.
Develop interest and knowledge of llamas among young people through
educational opportunities and "hands-on" experiences using programs
currently available, as well as developing new avenues for exposure.
2.
Serve as information liaison between ILA Youth Committee and SSLA membership,
eg. notify membership through the Journal of pertinent changes in policy, etc.
3.
Provide resource list of 4-H Llama Project teaching materials to 4-H volunteer
leaders.
4.
Provide guidance for State 4-H Extension Agents seeking information about
available teaching materials for Llama Projects.
5.
Provide a networking communications avenue to get potential 4-H llama
providers in contact with 4-H youth needing llamas for projects.
6.
Keep a current copy of reference teaching materials in the SSLA Library for
review and check-out by SSLA membership.
YOUTH
SCHOLARSHIP

It has been approved,
unanimously, by the SSLA Board of Directors, to establish a new Youth
Scholarship program.
Youth, who are SSLA members may apply to the SSLA Scholarship Committee, for the
annual scholarship award. This award will be for $500.00 yearly up to four years
per awardee, while attending an approved school of higher learning.
Curriculum as determined by criteria established for the award.
The Application process is established, and must be prepared and presented to
the SSLA Scholarship Committee. This committee will evaluate each application,
and then determine the ranking of the applicants.
Application must be made to the committee no later than January 15th.
Announcement of the award will be made at the annual SSLA Conference.
Each successive year, a scholarship winner may reapply. To continue receiving
yearly awards, the applicant must present proof to the Scholarship Committee
that they have continued their enrollment and have maintained at least a (B)
average for the past year.

It
will be the responsibility and obligation of the Southern States Llama
Association Fiber Committee to:
1.
Encourage and educate its members in the care of and end use of their
animals' fiber in order to make it a viable and marketable product by
conducting and or coordinating seminars, workshops, fiber displays
and juried competitions.
2.
Create a directory of knowledgeable and available persons in fields such as
shearing, fiber processing, spinning, weaving, and product finishing.
3.
Provide SSLA, and in particular the Llama Journal, with topical information
regarding prevailing fiber events and current items of interest.

The
SSLA driving committee's mission is to promote both safe and fun driving
activities through education and organized planned driving events along with
educating the public about "what do you do with a llama."
Objectives:
Promote
and encourage safe driving and training methods for both the driver and
Llama.
Provide
cart driving workshops at the annual meeting or other meetings.
Educate
llama owners about the potential marketing opportunities with cart llamas.
Promote
and encourage special llama driving events for llama drivers and potential
drivers.
Encourage
llama shows to include one or more driving classes as part of the program.
PERFORMANCE:
PACKING/ PACK TRIAL

Goal:
To promote interest in packing with llamas, both commercial and for pleasure
and to provide an exchange of information with people interested in packing

Committee
Members: Ask for volunteers from each state interested in packing to be on
the packing committee. Committee members will be asked to offer advice on
packing in their state.
. Projects:
Get a list of where llamas are allowed and who to contact in that area with
any other questions (state or federal agencies)
.Try
to get an interest in Pack Performance Llama Trials.
